Edward S. Waters, 74; TV Writer and Producer Won an Emmy in 1976

Edward S. Waters, 74, a writer and producer for such television series as “Kung Fu” and “Police Story,” which earned him an Emmy in 1976, died Oct. 5 at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica of unspecified causes. A native New Yorker, Waters graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and served in the Navy, rising to the rank of lieutenant. He moved to Los Angeles in 1954 and found work as a staff writer for CBS. Waters wrote the scripts for several films, including “Sorority Girl” in 1957 and “Man-Trap” directed by his uncle, Edmond O’Brien, in 1961.

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C., Nov. 17 (AP) - Dayton Allen, a comedian and actor best known for his work as the voices of the cartoon character Deputy Dawg and the grumpy marionette Mayor Phineas T. Bluster on “The Howdy Doody Show,” died here on Nov. 11. He was 85 and lived in Flat Rock, N.C.

Ed Kemmer, 84, ‘Space Patrol’ Actor, Is Dead

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 15 (AP) - Ed Kemmer, who played the intrepid Cmdr. Buzz Corry in the popular 1950’s sci-fi television show “Space Patrol” before becoming a regular on daytime soap operas, died last Tuesday at a hospital in Manhattan. He was 84.He died after suffering from a stroke on Nov. 5, a family friend, Jean-Noel Bassior, told The Los Angeles Times.

HAMILTON, Ontario, Nov. 15 (AP) - Ellen Fairclough, the first woman to serve in a Canadian cabinet, died here on Saturday. She was 99. She died in a nursing home after several years of failing health and apparently suffering a stroke on Thursday night, her family said.
