Today’s lesson: be sure to bend your knees and follow-through (and don’t choke on number 500)

Harold “Bunny” Levitt has died at age 96. Levitt was the famed free-throw shooter of the all-black Harlem Globetrotters. Between quarters of basketball games, the Globetrotters challenged any member of the audience to beat Bunny in a free-throw contest. Anyone beating Bunny won $1,000. The Globetrotters never paid a dime. In 1935 he made 499 consecutive free-throws. Oh, and one other thing, Bunny was 5 feet 4 inches and white.

Talk about ODDexits. Workers renovating a home in Budapest came upon a large barrel of rum. Enjoying its “special flavor,” they drank the rum on the job, and took bottles home. When finally drained, the barrel seemed heavier than expected. Looking inside, they found the pickled remains of a man. Turns out that the former owner of the home, rather than pay the costs and duties of bringing home her husband’s body from Jamaica, had it placed in the barrel and shipped to Hungary. Yo ho ho and a bottle of yuk.

So, do you know Tiger Woods’ real name?

So, do you know Tiger Woods’ real name?

Earl Wood, father of famed golfer Tiger Woods is dead at age 74. Cause of death, metastatic cancer of the prostate.

Tigerlore has it that Tiger Woods first exhibited propensity for golf at age 9 months, when he tottered over to where his father was hitting golf balls into a net in the garage, picked up a sawed-off club, and hit a ball straight into the net. Actually, we ODDones did the same thing, but used the club to bean the family dog. Maybe that explains why Tiger made $87 million last year, and got over 2 million hits on his website, and we made $12 dollars plus a half-off coupon for a cheese cow at Jim’s Cheese Pantry in Waterloo, Wisconson, and got five hits this winter on the windshield of our stool green Yugo.

Oh yes, Tiger’s real name? Eldrich.

So what did you do during your junior year in high school?

Stanley Hiller enrolled in the University of California, Berkeley. So what did you do during your senior year in high school? Hiller dropped out of Berkeley, designed, and flew his on helicopter (“Hiller Copter”). Guess this shouldn’t have surprised anyone, since in 6th grade he started a company making mini-race cars, and ended up making $100,000 per year. Better than a paper route.

Hiller died of complications of Alzheimer’s at age 81 years.

For those of you whose Friday night routine somewhere in the period of 1970 to 2002 consisted of watching Louis Rukeyser on Wall $treet Week, (can there be any better indication of either being married or otherwise needing a life than watching PBS on Friday nights?), Rukeyser is dead at age 73. The cause of death was multiple myeloma, a.k.a. cancer of the bone marrow.

”Good evening. I’m Louis Rukeyser and this is ‘Wall Street Week.’ Welcome back.”
Rukeyser’s opening line on every show.
