Hypothermia

Posted in ODD Guests, Music, Literature, History, Movies & TV, Sports, Religion, Not One Of Us, Media on December 7th, 2006

Eek! A Mouse! We admit to being ODDly torn between the Silly String story, the Mary Cheney (”I Ain’t No Fortunate Son”, er daughter?) story, the “Mom and Dad kidnapped me the day before my wedding” story, the gun in every house (but what about brains?) story, the flatulence downs airliner story, or the continuing tale of Mel Gibson Lunatic For Hire.

The story that has us really nonplussed however is the James Kim story. Why keep going on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere when you are ill-equipped to do so? Why not turn around and head back to the highway? If you are insistent on walking out, why not follow said dirt road back instead of striking off through the woods? Plenty of questions that will likely never be answered, but there is one item we think will come out: hypothermia. The killer in hypothermia is that you THINK you are doing all the right things and making excellent choices, but the sad truth is that you are really in a dangerous downward spiral. Bad news period.

New Age Dating Tips
And here we have a lovely ‘Bad News’ segue…A Cobb County, Georgia police officer is accused of sending an inappropriate (aka nude) photograph to a woman he arrested. Go get ‘em tiger.

Apophis Redux
And just in case you are still tweaked over Apophis the Science Boys have good news about water on Mars. No word if United Van Lines services the area yet however.

The Sky Is Falling

Posted in ODD Guests, Music, Science, History on December 6th, 2006

We decided that today was a good day for being Paranoid, or more correctly, being more paranoid than is ODDly typical. That said we wanted to be sure and share our worries with you so you too could ride the Paranoid Bus - plenty of seats really. Face it, we are in danger. That should be a We, not we. The sky is falling albeit slowly and its name is Apophis. No, not the Apophis from the Stargate SG-1 show, but Apophis the Asteroid. We have a genuine GodSmack situation here with the distinct possibility that Apophis will strike the Earth. Enough to bring out the paranoia in anyone.

But we can’t live our lives under the constant cloud of paranoia now can we? Thus we should consider other cheery news - as reported by the Seattle Times (and countless others) NASA will setup housekeeping at the south pole of the moon. White picket fences are optional on the lots we understand. Excelsior! We’re Going to the Moon! Excelsior!

Oh, one thing we forgot. You have time to really, really ramp up your worries vis a vis Apophis. The likely close encounter won’t occur until 2036 or so. That said will fully authorize you to use this situation to your advantage - ask for a doomsday raise, or perhaps an extended Afternoon Delight romp.

Ah, bugger it…Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Living Piggy Lives

Posted in ODD Guests, Music, Movies & TV, Arts, Media on December 5th, 2006

“Everywhere there’s lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.” ~~ “Piggies”, by George Harrison

Or not, in the case of George Clooney’s bestest little pot-bellied buddy Max (No No No - NOT Danny Devito). Young Max died “peacefully” at the lovely age of 19. Alas poor George…and to think two pet deaths in one year. O’ wither PETA to investigate this? We realize that the lovely and talented Pamela Anderson is preoccupied at present, but isn’t there a second line of defense? (And 10,000 thanks to ChinaDaily for the reprint of the piggy story.)

From our bosom buddies at the LA Times comes word that Perry Henzell has died at 70. Perry’s movie ‘The Harder They Come’ is credited with bringing reggae to the world. You might recall that Jimmy Cliff starred in the movie. The soundtrack features a wide variety of artists including Toots and the Maytals and Desmond Dekker.
