While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Sunrise doesnt last all morning
A cloudburst doesnt last all day
Seems my love is up and has left you with no warning
Its not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away ~~ All Things Must Pass

Our first line source for all things wise and wonderful - Hippy.com - tells us that today is the anniversary of the passing of George Harrison.

Did you know that a (minor) planet - 4149 - was named after George? Planet George Harrison - isn’t the ‘Net just wonderful?

Just in case things weren’t scary enough…we came across this morphed pic of an ancient Indiana Jones - YIKES! The Down Under reviewer Videohead obvously spent hours perfecting the image. Take a read through some of Videohead’s other ramblings while you are at the site.

Too Stuffed To Jump

Posted in ODD Guests, Music, History, Media on November 27th, 2006

Yep, you got it right. We ARE talking about the Amazing Rhythm Aces album “Too Stuffed To Jump”. And if you’ve never heard Third Rate Romance it is certainly time you jumped into your easy chair, fired up iTunes or Amazon and picked up your copy. Low Rent Rendevous indeed.

Now you might think we MEANT to droll on about T-Day and too much okra, sweet potato, pie or stump-slung chitterlings (hold the collard greens for us please)….but NO, that would be too mundane.

We’d somehow like to tie all this nonsense into the death of the Will o’ the Wisp - boxer Willie Pep, but much like Pep in his heyday the tie-in is elusive. Hey!, did you know that ‘heyday’ is given as perhaps an alteration of heyda an exclamation of pleasure, probably alteration of the Middle English hey. Well, legend has it that Pep won a match without throwing a punch - this blog is certainly following suit in delivering a bunch of words without much point. But what do you expect from ones Too Stuffed To Jump, eh?

Meanwhile you have life in certain parts of Atlanta - apparently the elderly woman in the story managed to shoot at and hit some four officers before being gunned down herself. Her neice reported her as being scared.

Heyday! Contactmusic.com reports that Dirk Dirksen, a punk music impresario who ran San Francisco’s Mabuhay Gardens nightclub during its heyday in the 1970s, has died. We’d explain the tie-in about bouncing Dead Kennedy and Black Flag concerts, but, hey!, just look at the time!

Good thing that Atlanta woman didn’t live in New York - a hail of bullets just seems to be the norm.

Robert Altman

Posted in ODD Guests, Movies & TV, Media on November 21st, 2006

From the Cinematical.com web site comes word that Robert Altman has died.

Christopher Campbell at Cinematical.com says that Altman “…made my favorite western (McCabe & Mrs. Miller), my favorite movie about Hollywood (The Player), my favorite movie about the Korean War (MASH), my favorite wedding movie (A Wedding) and my favorite movie about country music (Nashville).”

We ODDones have to admit it is hard to argue with Mr. Campbell. We do note that it is a sad, sad thing that Hollywood nomintated Mr. Altman for an Academy Award five times, but never consumated the deal. Alas. Oh, and lest we forget, Mr. Altman also directed Buffalo Bill and the Indians. Check out the cast on this overlooked gem.
