Blues News
R&B great Floyd Dixon has died at age 77 so we read in the San Jose Mercury News. The News relates that Floyd was “…a master of West Coast rhythm-and-blues who toured with B.B. King and sometimes is credited with inspiring Ray Charles to adopt a grittier gospel sound…”.

Down in the Dumps News
British fashion model Kim McLagan dies in traffic accident. Who? “…Kim McLagan, a British fashion model in the 1960s and the wife of former Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan, died Wednesday in a traffic accident. The 57-year-old spa owner was hit by a dump truck when she ran a stop sign in Travis County, said James Parrish, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety…”. So says the KRIS TV web site. And Who would have guessed: KRIS further relates that “Kim Kerrigan rose to prominence as a teenage model in London in the 1960s. She married the Who drummer Keith Moon in 1966 and appeared the next year in the worldwide satellite debut of the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love” video. The couple divorced in 1975, and Moon died in 1978. She married Ian McLagan the same year.”

New Jersey Will Be the Death Of Me News
Hollywood.com reports that modeling sensation Heather Bratton’s short career is over after she was killed in a car crash last month. Apparently she was riding in a hired car that broke down on the New Jersey Turnpike. As she waited inside the car not one, but two turnpiking vehicles slammed into her disabled car. Environmental News
Our mindful Left Coast reporter Bill recently filed this story regarding the passing of one Tim Mckay: Tim was an activist and long time executive director of the Northcoast Environmental Center (NEC) in Arcata. He passed Sunday of an apparent heart attack whilst birding at Stone Lagoon. He was 59. As a rare bird himself, one hopes that perhaps his heart gave out after seeing the rarest bird on his life list. He was the main man at the NEC for most of it’s thirty five year existence. Making sure that environmental wrongs were exposed and then corrected,he was needed not only by us enviros but also by the Charles Hurwitzs’ and Harry Merlos’ of the world, as every evil doer needs their Batman.

Editor’s note: Tim McKay’s reported last sighting was of a Cooper’s Hawk. You may of course interpret this as per your current theology/philosophy/&etc deems reasonable.

Emulating Big-Ben? News
Bryant Leon Sutphin sadly exited primarily due to his road-tripping sans helmet.

Family Values meets Common Sense News
Andy Richardson was beaten to death in the mosh pit at a recent Korn concert. Apparently Mr. Richardson took his heavily pregnant wife and mentally challenged offspring into the mosh pit and asked others in said pit to kindly refrain from jostling his companions. Missing the entire emphasis of the current Korn tour another mosh piter punched Mr. Richardson in the head whereupon he fell heavily to the concrete floor.

Alcohol As Truth Serum News
Is anyone truely surprised by Mel Gibson’s rant? Seriously? Consider the bizarre religious beliefs Mr. Gibson (son AND especially father) hold near and dear and Ta! Da! Mel’s anti-Semitism rant seems to have an obvious launch pad: in Mel’s tiny world the Jews are responsible for what he believes is the most heinous crime in all of history - the death of Jesus. Perhaps a ticket price refund is in order. We do know that Mel skipped the On Deck circle and rushed his career directly to the front of the Our Daily Dead queue. We didn’t realize that Mel and Tom were related, did you?

What A Hoot!

Posted in ODD Blogs, Literature, History, Military, Business on July 21st, 2006

Dang! We TOLD you strange things were afoot and the next thing we know a WEEK disappears! Egad.

Okay, sit up straight and pay attention. We are going to do our ODDly level best to keep you abreast of recent departures with no tit-for-tat required on your part. And where better to start than with Robert Brooks, chairman of the Hooters Restaurant chain. Natural causes the coronor says did catch up with Mr. Brooks. A curious note in one article had that “Brooks, 69, was found dead Sunday by his wife and a neighbor after he failed to show up at their usual Sunday breakfast, Coroner Robert Edge said.” Um, where were the wife and neighbor before breakfast?

One of the Second World War’s top flying aces, Wing Commander Robert Carl ‘Moose’ Fumerton, died at Muskoka Landing in Huntsville last Monday at age 93. Between 1941 and 1944, Wing Commander Moose shot down 14 enemy planes, damaging one other aircraft. He was shot down twice and survived due to his own skillful flying ability.

Dave Walter, an author and Montana Historical Society research historian, died Wednesday night after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. He was 63. Mr. Walter was well-known for his Speaking Ill Of The Dead: Jerks In Montana History book and recently published the sequel Still Speaking Ill of the Dead: More Jerks in Montana History.

And finally the big finish. In fact let us go out with a bang and bring you Dr. Nicholas Bartha and his solution to the division of property during a divorce. Somehow this reminds us of old westerns and pledging to die with one’s boots on.

(P.S. Oh yea, “Mickey Spillane” died too just in case you were off-planet last week.)
